Hi I’ve started a Trans-Friendly Feminist group on Facebook.
Please let me know if you’d like to join. I really like what I’ve read of your writing and would be excited and honored if you care to join. If not that’s ok- I just had to reach out and ask you.
ps I am genderqueer.

Hi there,
Thanks, I’m glad to hear you’ve enjoyed some of my writings here at leftytgirl 🙂 Please feel free to post a link to your fb group, and I will take a look! (alternately, feel free to send it to me at my email contact, leftytgirl@gmail.com if that is more comfortable)

I love your blog! Your writing is insightful, carefully considered and non-reactionary, and I wish you lived in NYC so we could have a weekly, standing coffee date! (C;
I’m also a woman of trans* history (a designation I favor, as I am a woman first, and I feel that my history needn’t define me,) and I occasionally write for Velvet Park (Dyke Culture in Bloom): http://www.velvetparkmedia.com/user/9237/blogs
I’m leaving a comment, because I wanted to say “hi”, and because I’d love to open a door to dialogue.
Also, Susanna, I’d love to be a part of your page on Facebook.
Best to both of you,
Evie Frishman

Thanks for saying hello, Evie! I’d love to join you for coffee in NYC; actually in theory it is one of my favorite cities on this planet but I hardly ever get to spend time there… well, maybe someday!
Also thanks for sharing your blog at Velvet Park, I had a look around, in particular the post about rethinking “transgender”… actually I guess I have my own somewhat complicated relationship with the word, maybe I’ll write about that someday, but mostly I just prefer to the term “trans” to avoid the endless “transsexual” vs. “transgender” arguments.

I’m looking forward to hearing more about that.. I chose the term “woman of trans experience/history” mainly because I believe one ought not be defined simply by one’s past (although, both “experience” AND “history” do in fact speak directly of said past..)
It’s a complex inner argument, but as a writer, I’m obsessed with language and the ways in which it not only explains our identities, but actually comes to shape them.

I really want to thank you for sharing your advice and experiences through your blog. I’m bisexual and in the early stages of a relationship with a woman who identifies as trans. It’s a new (and so far really lovely) experience for me. I’ve always found myself attracted to a person because of who they are on the inside. I could care less about organs or external things. What matters to me is who someone really is and how they treat others. Sadly, I’ve discovered that’s apparently not something a lot of people understand or value.
Anyway, the point is I’ve had almost no interaction with transgender individuals beyond casual contact. I’m beginning to have some real feelings for this woman and I don’t want to ever hurt her – even inadvertently – through my inexperience. Reading some of your advice has given me more insight, understanding, and confidence in growing this relationship. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it.
